Individual Therapy

Why Therapy?

You have done everything you can think of to figure things out on your own, but no matter how hard you have tried, things aren’t getting better. Friends and family try to help, but nothing is changing and you don’t like feeling like a burden. You need a professional who can actually give you real skills and strategies to work through your struggles and get to the other side.

Does therapy really work?

Yes! Every day I get to see people heal and change their lives through the process of therapy. I use evidence-based, heavily researched models of therapy that are proven to provide real help and change. Your mind, heart and body can actually heal!

What is therapy like?

Therapy is typically not what you see on TV or movies - in other words, it’s not “stuffy” and just endless talking. Therapy is not all tears and tissues either (although those are welcome too!). I believe that therapy should be creative, educational, and personalized to your specific needs. Together we build a plan that fits your life and unique worldview. There is one word that I hear often from my clients as they describe what therapy is like for them, and that is relief.

How long does therapy take?

I wish I could give a definitive answer to this question, because I hear it a lot. The less popular (but honest) answer is that “it takes as long as it takes” - this means that we will spend as much time as we need to in order for you to actually feel better. My guess is that you didn’t get here overnight, so lasting change will not happen overnight either. However, some of the models of therapy that I use, such as EMDR, are proven to work in a more timely manner than traditional talk therapy. Therapy is a journey, and there are no short cuts, but if you are willing to show up and do the work, you can get better!
