Therapy Intensives

What is a Therapy Intensive?

EMDR Intensive Therapy is a powerful way to accelerate the healing that you would experience in a typical EMDR session. Rather than going to counseling for an hour session once a week, you would set aside a specific chunk of time - between 3 hours to a full day - for intensive therapeutic work. It is a concentrated way to get the powerful results of EMDR in a shorter time frame. It helps people journey deeper and feel better faster.

Why choose a Therapy Intensive versus regular therapy?

You may have been in therapy for years and not experienced the relief you had hoped for. You may have a regular therapist that you love, but have a specific area of your life that your therapist is recommending EMDR for on a short term basis. Perhaps making time for an hour a week for regular therapy has been challenging and you are frustrated with the process. Some people view a Therapy Intensive as a personal retreat - which I highly recommend, by the way!

How does it work?

Prior to the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Pre-Intensive Interview to determine the goal of the intensive. We will look at what your life looks like now, and what you would like to work on (the places that you want relief). During the EMDR Intensive we do 2 things: 1) Make the painful stuff in your life hurt less and 2) Help the good stuff feel even better. Depending on where you are in your journey, we may spend time focusing on past events, your present day situation, or on the future. This process can be very personal and customized to you. After the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on the elements that were most meaningful to you and how you want to infuse that into your life moving forward.

Where do Therapy Intensives take place?

Intensives can take place in person or virtually - this depends on your location and what is most comfortable to you. Options can be discussed and customized - one of the fun parts of a Therapy Intensive!

Are there times a Therapy Intensive is not appropriate?

Yes. Issues such as active addiction, suicidality, and severe persistent mental illness (untreated) would not be appropriate for a Therapy Intensive. The Pre-Interview process will allow us to determine if you would be a good fit for a Therapy Intensive at this time, or if you may need to address some underlying issues before proceeding with an intensive format of therapy.
